1. What are the key factors determining the cut quality of thick carbon steel?
To cut thick carbon steel (above 20mm), parameters like assist gas purity (typically O2 is used for exothermic reactions), focal positioning (focused deep inside the material), nozzle design, and speed need to be carefully controlled. Our systems use intelligent cutting heads that automatically adjust the beam mode and spot size to achieve consistent edge quality.
2. What is the difference between Nitrogen (N2), Oxygen (O2), and Compressed Air as assist gases?
N2 cuts inertly, avoiding oxide layer formation, which is ideal for stainless steel that will be painted or welded. O2 causes an exothermic reaction, providing extra heat to cut thick carbon steel faster, but leaves a dark oxide layer. Compressed Air is a cost-effective alternative for thinner sheets where cutting speeds are high and gas costs must be kept low.
3. How does laser cutting technology affect the heat-affected zone (HAZ)?
Fiber lasers concentrate heat on a very small spot. This localized energy input, combined with high-pressure assist gas, cools the surrounding material quickly. As a result, the heat-affected zone (HAZ) is much smaller than that left by plasma or oxy-fuel cutting. This helps prevent carbon migration and mechanical deformation near the cut edge.
4. Why is ground rail architecture preferred over standard gantry designs for ultra-large plates?
For formats exceeding 12 meters (such as our 13025LC), loading heavy plate materials onto standard shuttle tables can cause mechanical stress. Ground rail designs allow the gantry to move along rails anchored directly to the concrete floor. This design supports the handling of massive plates without sacrificing machine accuracy.
5. How do LXSHOW machines handle reflecting metals like copper or brass?
Highly reflective metals can send laser beams back into the fiber delivery system, potentially damaging the resonator. Our machines use optical isolators and back-reflection absorption technology, combined with modern fiber sources, to process copper, brass, and aluminum alloys safely.
